The app

What is Daydream Film?

Daydream Film is a photo editing app for iPhone that gives your photos the film look, by developing them the way real film would.

Is Daydream a camera or a photo editor?

Both. Daydream has a built-in camera, but it is designed around editing: bring in any photo you already have, develop it as film, and save the result. Nothing about how you shoot has to change.

How is this different from a filter?

A filter pastes one look on top of every photo. Daydream simulates how film responds to the light in your photo, and every part of that response, from grain to halation to color, is a control you can adjust.

Which films come with it?

Four: Daydream, Nightcall, Noir and Nostalgia. Each is an original look inspired by real film, from everyday color to tungsten night film to black and white.

Can I make my own look?

Yes. Open the Lab to adjust any part of a film, from halation to grain, and save the result as your own preset.

What is a preset card?

Any edit can be shared as a preset card: a small card with your photo, the recipe behind it, and a code that anyone can scan to import your exact look into their own copy of Daydream.

Your photos and privacy

What happens to my original photo?

Nothing. Edits are non-destructive: Undo, Redo, and Revert are always available while you work, and saving writes a new photo to your library.

Does Daydream upload my photos?

No. Your photos are developed on your iPhone and never sent to Daydream. If you use iCloud, your Daydream edits sync through your own iCloud account.

Do I need an account?

No. There's nothing to sign up for inside the app.

What does the app collect?

Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, through Google Firebase: which features get used, your iPhone model and iOS version. Never your photos, and no advertising tracking.

Does it need an internet connection?

Not to develop and save photos: that all happens on your iPhone.

Formats

What can I save my photos as?

Full-resolution JPEG, HEIC or PNG, saved to a Daydream Film album in your Photos library.

Does Daydream work with RAW photos?

No. Daydream works with the HEIC and JPEG photos your iPhone takes, and with PNG.

Does it work on video?

No, Daydream is for photos.
